Abbreviations:

  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: increase (2 single crochet in the same stitch)
  • dec: decrease (single crochet two stitches together)
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • ch: chain

Body of the Hen:

  1. Round 1: Create a magic ring and crochet 8 single crochets (sc) into it. Alternatively, you can use the chain 2 (ch 2) method and crochet 8 sc into the first chain.
  2. Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (16 stitches in total)
  3. Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) repeat 8 times. (24 stitches in total)
  4. Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) repeat 8 times. (32 stitches in total)
  5. Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) repeat 8 times. (40 stitches in total)
  7. Rounds 6-11: Sc in each stitch around. (40 stitches per round)
