Free Crochet Dinosaur Pattern (Ankylosaurus Amigurumi)

Crocheted Ankylosaurus will be a cute, soft, small version of this giant dinosaur. So, I have come here with this free crochet dinosaur pattern for adding to the prehistoric toy collection. Our Ankylosaurus will be created in cartoon finish, and the iconic bony plates will be crocheted using a fluffy bobble stitch. Overall, it is an easy project for beginners and an exciting gift for little ones!

Materials

You must have these crochet supplies before you start crocheting with dinosaur pattern:

Yarn:

  • The main color is 25g of DK weight yarn (any brand works!). Colors used in the example: Moss (green), Wheat (beige), Pecan (brown), and Lace (white).
  • Mini version (optional): Fingering weight yarn (Scheepjes Soft Fun yarn can be substituted).

Crochet hook:

  • Standard size: 2.5mm
  • Mini version (optional): 1.75mm

Other materials:

  • Stuffing: Fiberfill or toy stuffing
  • Finishing touches: Stitch marker, scissors, embroidery needle
  • Eyes: 8mm safety eyes (6mm for the mini version)

Size:

  • Standard size: approximately 16cm (6 inches) long
  • Mini version (optional): approximately 12cm (5 inches) long

Work with brown color.
Turn the piece after each row.
*After the 1 chain (ch), you will start crochet on the second chain from the hook.
Make 7 chains.

Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew to the head.

eyes. Tip! Place the head shield with pins before attaching
the eyes – just to check if eye placement is okay.

Stuff the head with filling. Keep rest of the rounds (after back loops) flat.

Fasten off and leave a yarn tail. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops of each stitch and pull it tight to close. Then weave in the yarn ends.

Start with green color.

Before each bobble stitch change to white color. And then change back to green color in all single crochets:

Stuff the legs lightly only up to round 6.

Fasten off and leave a long yarn tail. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops of each stitch and pull it tight to close. Rest of the yarn tail you will use to sew the legs to the body.

ASSEMBLY
Press the head against the body and sew it together from the round where the back loops are. Place the head on rounds 6-11 of the body.
Attach the tail to the body from round 6, centered at the back. Add some stuffing before closing up.
Attach two legs on each side of the body from round 9-10. Approx. 5-6 stitches between them. Make sure the toes facing forward.
Attach the head shield on the head, starting from where the beige color ends and green color starts, to the neck.
Attach the body shield where the head shield ends on the neck to the tail.
Attach the horns to the side of the head. Two on each side. The top one will be placed at the edge of the head shield. The second one will be placed 1 stitch below.
