Materials Needed:

  • Four colors of yarn (including dark beige for the body, green for lettuce, and red for the tomato)
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stuffing
  • Black thread
  • Optional: blush and eye shadow

Pattern Instructions:

Body of the Capybara:

  1. Start with a Magic Ring:
    • Make 6 single crochets (SC) into the magic ring.
    • Tighten the loop and slip stitch into the first SC to close the round.
  2. Round 2:
    • Increase in each stitch around (2 SC in each stitch). You should have 12 stitches at the end.
    • Slip stitch into the first SC, chain 1.
  3. Round 3:
    • (SC, Increase) Repeat around. This means 1 SC in the first stitch, 2 SC in the next stitch. Repeat until the end of the round.
    • Slip stitch into the first SC, chain 1.
  4. Round 4:
    • (2 SC, Increase) Repeat around, meaning 1 SC in each of the first two stitches, then 2 SC in the next stitch. Repeat.
    • Slip stitch and chain 1.
  5. Round 5:
    • Work in back loops only (BLO): 1 SC in each stitch around.
    • Slip stitch into the first SC, chain 1.
  6. Rounds 6-8:
    • SC in each stitch around, working in both loops.
    • Slip stitch and chain 1 at the end of each round.
  7. Round 9:
    • Work in BLO again: (2 SC, Invisible Decrease) Repeat around.
      • For the decrease, insert the hook into the front loop of the first stitch and the front loop of the second stitch, yarn over, and pull through all loops.
    • Slip stitch into the first SC, chain 1.
    • Add stuffing until about halfway full.
  8. Round 10:
    • (SC, Invisible Decrease) Repeat around, working in both loops for the SC and front loops for the decrease.
    • Add more stuffing, ensuring the body is well-filled but leaving space for the finishing stitches.
  9. Round 11:
    • Invisible decrease in each stitch around.
    • Decrease six times.
    • Slip stitch and cut the yarn.
    • Use a yarn needle to sew the hole closed, weaving through front loops of each stitch and pulling tight. Weave in the ends.

Lettuce:

  1. With Green Yarn:
    • Attach the yarn to one of the front loops remaining from Round 5 of the body.
    • Chain 1, SC in the same loop.
    • (Chain 2, SC in next front loop) Repeat all the way around.
    • Slip stitch to the first stitch and cut the yarn, weaving in the ends.

Tomato:

  1. With Red Yarn:
    • Attach the yarn to one of the front loops, following the same method as the lettuce.
    • (SC 2 in first loop, SC 1 in next two loops) Repeat around.
    • Slip stitch, cut the yarn, and weave in the ends.

Face Details:

  1. Facial Features with Black Thread:
    • Use a yarn needle to add eyes and nose details to the capybara.
  2. Optional Face Blush and Muzzle Shading:
    • Use blush or eye shadow to add some color to the cheeks and muzzle, applying gently with a brush.
