How To Crochet Amigurumi Pastry Pal

Supplies Needed

  • Worsted yarn (main frosting color and pastry color)
  • Small length of yarn (for icing/sprinkles)
  • 2 x 12 mm safety eyes
  • 3.5 mm (US E) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Fiberfill for stuffing

Pattern Instructions

Panel 1 (Front Panel, Using Frosting Color)

  1. Slip Knot & Chain: Make a slip knot and chain 9.
  2. Row 1: Start in the second chain from the hook. Make a single crochet (sc) in each chain across. (Total: 8 sc)
  3. End of Row: Chain 1 and turn the work.
  4. Row 2: Make a sc in each stitch across. (Total: 8 sc)
  5. Repeat: Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of 12 rows.
  6. Finish: Cut a short tail and weave it through the back of the panel. Weave the tail a couple of times and cut off the excess.

Face Details

  1. Insert Eyes: Place the safety eyes between rows 3 and 4, spaced about 2 stitches apart. Snap the backs of the eyes.
  2. Adding White Yarn: Use white yarn to outline the eyes for added character. Start at the top of each eye and bring the yarn down to about 3/4 of the way. Secure and tie off at the back.
  3. Sprinkles: Using your sprinkle yarn, add sprinkles sporadically across the panel. Secure and tie off on the back.

Panel 2 (Back Panel, Using Pastry Color)

  1. Slip Knot & Chain: Make a slip knot and chain 9.
  2. Row 1: Start in the second chain from the hook. Make a single crochet in each chain across. (Total: 8 sc)
  3. End of Row: Chain 1 and turn the work.
  4. Row 2: Make a sc in each stitch across. (Total: 8 sc)
  5. Repeat: Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of 12 rows. Do not finish off this piece.

Assembling the Pastry Pal

  1. Join Panels: Place the face panel (right side facing you) on the back panel.
  2. Start Joining: Starting from a corner, insert your hook through both panels and make a single crochet.
  3. Corners: In each corner, make 3 single crochets to round off the corners.
  4. Sides: Continue making single crochets around the edges to join the panels. Make sure the stitches are evenly spaced.
  5. Stuffing: Stop midway and add fiberfill. Ensure it’s enough to make the piece slightly puffy, without over-stuffing.
  6. Continue Joining: Continue single crocheting around until you reach the starting point.
  7. Slip Stitch: Slip stitch to the first sc you made, and cut the yarn leaving a short tail.
  8. Weave Ends: Weave ends using the yarn needle on the back side.
