Tea Horse Subscription Box

It is no secret I am a tea fiend. So when I discovered Tea Horse a few weeks ago, I just had to try their offering of a Tea Subscription Box. Regular readers will know I love a subscription box and can read previous reviews here.

Tea Horse collaborate with Master Tea Taster Tim Clifton (who has worked for over 30 years in the tea trade, including as a Director of the UK Tea Council) to ensure that they select and deliver the best loose teas each month.

Tea tasters (what a job!) choose a theme each month to create a box that includes:

  • 4 x 15g or 20g packs of loose leaf tea – enough to make at least 10 cups of each tea.
  • 40 x bio-degradable, unbleached filter tea filters. You just pop the tea in, pour on the water, brew the tea and then chuck it in the bin afterwards.
  • A little booklet with lots of lovely information on the teas. This includes a section to take notes on each tea, nifty!

The box I received was themed Refresh and Revive. Perfect for after Christmas indulgence, but also for me as I suffer with chronic migraine and often need a lift.

The teas included:

  • Green Tonic – an Indian organic green tea blend with ginger, lemongrass, liquorice root and spearmint
  • White Monkey – a Chinese white tea with a sweet biscuity flavour and notes of honey
  • Keemun Hao Ya A – a Chinese black tea with cocoa notes and hints of pepper and fruit
  • Nilgiri Thiashola – an Indian black tea similar to ceylon with a naturally sweet taste

Each tea is presented separately in part recyclable and bio-degradable packaging and the booklet offers detailed notes on history, flavour, steeping times and water temperatures. The tea filters are easy to use and dispose of.

The Green Tonic felt healthy and the citrus flavours made for a bright, fresh cup of tea. It would be a good tea to start the day with and certainly feels as though it would aid well-being.

As well as having a super name, White Monkey is a great anti-oxidant with delicate flavours. I tried steeping this one with my tea ball, but I think I’ll use the filter next time as  it did let some tea out. I always have white tea after a massage, so I immediately felt relaxed whilst drinking this.Tea Horse Subscription Box White Monkey Tea

I’ve yet to try the Black teas, but will be indulging in some more tasting this week.

Tea Horse have a great mission and seem genuinely passionate about what they do. All the teas are available to buy in their Shop online, but a subscription is only £11.95 per month and good value in my opinion.

Highly recommended and a must for any tea geek!
