Bicycle Handlebar Streamers

I am very excited to let you know about a new bicycle themed venture I am involved with. Let me introduce The Little Bicycle Club! This new site curates and sells handmade items which have been designed to provide children with stylish cycling accessories.

Just look at the mice mittens!

I was asked to provide some handlebar streamers in bright fun colours. I adapted my streamer design from Craft Bomb Your Bike to make them child friendly with elastic fastenings and button details.

I styled some photos for the site too which I really enjoyed doing. I think the autumn theme works well.

I’d love to know what you think! I really want to make a pair for Florence too. Doesn’t she look pretty modelling the pink ones?

NOTE: The Little Bicycle Club has now closed.

Bicycle Decoration Ideas

Cambridge has been an utter delight for sunny autumn days this last month. G and I have made the most of it by taking after work bike rides and making sure Florence is looking pretty. Today I’m sharing some snaps of Florence with her new look and hope they provide some bicycle decoration ideas for you!

For the pom poms I used Stylecraft Special DK yarn (available here) and simply tied them to my basket. I used the nifty Clover Pom-Pom Maker to make the pom poms.

The spokey dokey beads were from Tiger but I spray painted them to suit my colour scheme. Any excuse eh? They are NOISY when the bike is moving slowly so G hears me coming home from work most days!

These ribbon handlebar streamers are a variation of my pattern in the Craft Bomb Your Bike book. This time, I developed the pattern to use an elastic fastener and added some buttons for decoration.

I’m very excited to share the news that the handlebar streamers were made for a new venture I was invited to contribute to. More on this next week, sorry to tease!

Craft Bomb Your Bike

If you are a subscriber to the Claireabellemakes newsletter you will have found out about my secret project last week. Now, I’m super pleased to share it fully with you all here on the blog….at long last!

Last year I was approached by a publisher and asked to contribute to a new book titled Craft Bomb Your Bike! As an avid cyclist and a huge fan of DIYs, I was really excited to be asked and to be included alongside other craft bloggers whom I follow and admire.

The book includes 20 makes for you and your bike including some fantastic crochet wheel guards and even leg warmers for cycling.

My projects include these pretty ribbon and lace handlebar streamers.

A pom pom bike basket garland….(I just HAD to do a pom pom project).

And circular fabric bunting for your bike basket.

The book is now available for pre-order on Amazon and is released on 29 August. If you can’t wait, the patterns are also available as pdf downloads on the Stitch Craft Create site.

I hope you will agree this is a really exciting project to be involved in and what a perfect book for me! I’ve been bursting to tell you all, especially as people keep linking me to the book as they “thought I would like this” ha!

And it’s great to see people talking about the book on Twitter before it is even out!

Cambridge Bicycle Sculpture Trail

In celebration of the Tour De France, Cambridge Bid organised a bicycle sculpture trail called Recycle Le Velo. 13 innovative sculptures were made by local artists and placed in different locations around the city.

I took to my bike and completed the trail this week. By the end of the trail I felt truly inspired by the artists of Cambridge and uplifted by the pride our city has for cycling.

It gave me an opportunity to try out my new camera too! I think bicycles are fast becoming my favourite thing to photograph (Tammy aside).

She had a haircut this week. CUTENESS OVERLOAD.
