As renters, we can’t redecorate our home. So often, I will update a room by changing the soft furnishings such as cushions, rugs and throws. Following the makeover of this lamp (it was super ugly before), I decided on a new colour scheme for our living area. It’s funny how one small item can inspire a mini makeover. We used to have a red rug and cushions in similar tones, but it never felt quite right (see the last photo in this post) and felt a little dark with our charcoal sofa.
We got a new modern coffee table which has been so great, I don’t know how we survived without one for so long. I’ve updated the cushions a little on the sofa with some basic greys from IKEA and the pretty embroidered souk cushion shown below. I definitely want to add more though! How flippin’ cool is that Flamingo pillow?!
I’ve made a start anyway. Tammy obviously wanted to pose for the photo too. She’s monochrome and suits the colour scheme so I allowed it 😉
Following my woodworking class, I am thinking of building a ladder shelf for the blanket pile on the arm of the sofa and maybe moving the Japanese print somewhere else to make a nice gallery wall there. What do you think?
I find home updates so satisfying, as you only need to make a few small changes for it to feel like a different room! Just the light coloured rug has brightened the room so much, a friend even commented on that one change recently and how different the space looked.
I’d love to hear your suggestions for cushions and soft furninshings for me to take a look at! I’ve also been curating some home style boards over on Pinterest, so do take a look if you want some inspiration.
