I first came across The Bellwether when I went to the Renegade Craft Fair in London last November. Claire’s quirky and cheeky cross stitch samplers are a modern take on the classic craft. I adore The Bellwether pins.
Claire recently sent me one of the Mini Matchbox Cross Stitch Pendant Kits to have a go at (available here).
Each kit comes in a tiny box which contains a needle, thread, pendant blank and instructions. There are clear instructions for cross stitching and a simple chart. Plenty of thread and a spare needle, which was handy as I bent the first one oops!

I wasn’t sure what design Claire had sent me so it was a surprise until I was most of the way through!
The wooden blank was small (around 2cm across). I wasn’t quite sure which should be the front and which the back, as the holes are slightly bigger on one side.
Anyway, I carried on stitching until a skull design appeared and it was ready to turn into a pendant or keyring. I opted for a necklace so added a jump ring and chain from my jewellery supplies.
Super simple and takes about 20 minutes max for this design. I think these kits would make perfect gifts for crafty friends (even beginners) and I have always wanted to try stitching on these wooden cross stitch blanks so I really enjoyed making it.
Please check out The Bellwether website for more cross stitch samplers with a modern twist. You wont be disappointed!
