Guest Post: {DIY} The Sweetest Scrub

I am super duper excited about my guest today as it comes from one of my favourite bloggers of all time and a fantastic creative friend too. Please welcome the lovely Rachel who is sharing a great DIY today.

DIY Vanilla and Cinnamon Sugar Scrub

Hello all! I hope everyone had a wonderful festive period and a fab new year. I’m Rachel, from OH NO Rachio! and I’m pretty stoked about being able to share this little {DIY}. Thank you to the lovely Claire for inviting me to contribute here whilst she is away taking a well earned break {very jealous}!

Anyway, today I thought I’d share a little gift idea that takes literally five minutes, uses ingredients you pretty much definitely already have and makes a really sweet {excuse the pun} present to take over to a friend, or a thoughtful addition to a birthday parcel! Plus if you make enough you can secretly stash one for yourself too!

You can even download my little label design to use here 🙂

Use your scrub in the bath and shower to give yourself silky soft skin, or place it with a little tea spoon next to the sink to use as a luxurious little hand scrub after the washing up. It makes your hands lovely and smooth!

Here’s how you can make this sweet treat:

As for quantities, you basically don’t need to be precise at all with this recipe, that’s the beauty of it. You can just go by texture and smell.

For the two jars I made I used roughly:

//. 400g brown sugar

//. 1/3 cup of olive oil

//. 1 tsp vanilla essence/extract

//. 3 tsp ground cinnamon

Firstly run your jars through the dishwasher to sterilise them, let them cool whilst you get on with the scrub.

Add all of your ingredients to a big bowl and mix until you get a paste like consistency, where the grains of sugar start to clump together.

Once you are happy that your mixture looks ‘scrub like’ start to spoon it into your jars. If you are a little messy like me – curl up a piece of paper into a cone and use it as a make shift funnel – this helps to contain it somewhat!

Screw on the lid, print and cut out your labels {or personalise your own}, pop them onto your jar using a cheeky little Pritt Stick or other household glue and you’re done. Stand back and admire your work!

The great thing about this scrub is that you can add whatever scent you like, you could use lavender oil {and add some dried lavender too}, or rose oil, or orange blossom, anything. You can also use coconut oil instead of olive oil if you prefer.

I hope you liked my little {DIY}, you can find lots more over on my little blog! Thank you to Claire for having me, it’s been lovely to be part of her wonderfully creative space.

Thank you so much Rachel! I shall definitely be trying this one as I am a bit of a jar hoarder. Lovely readers please hop on over to Rachel’s blog and see the rest of her creative adventures. She also has a fabulous Etsy store full of illustrated goodies which I know you will all love.

  1. Thanks for sharing, love simple stuff like this that you can give to others pretending it takes hours to make such a wonderful product 😀 x

  2. I am literally ALL over this! amazing idea, and so simple. Absolute genious. Do you know whether it has a “best by” at all? Not that it will last long enough to matter, but just in case (thinking of making a few for friends) x
