Hello there! Welcome to my turn in the Make and Craft Blog tour which follows a different blogger each day in the run up to the launch of Make and Craft Magazine. I’m super happy to be taking the baton from the wonderful and completely lovely Georgina Giles.
For those of you new to my blog, I’m Claire and I write about crafts, baking and my beautiful home city of Cambridge. You can find some of my DIY craft tutorials here.
I also have an Etsy shop where I sell handmade jewellery and accessories.
Some of you will know one of the things I’m kind of crazy about is tape. As a craft item, I just think it has so many uses! Here is my much loved washi tape collection…..
After searching for different types of tape, I decided to make my own variations and share a tutorial for lace, glitter, paper and fabric versions.
My most recent makes with tape include this super simple washi tape notebook – what do you think?
So, let’s get to this giveaway and the reason I’ve been nattering away about tape! This fun book Tape It & Make It, 101 Craft Adventures With Duct Tape by Richela Fabian Morgan is available for one of you! A free craft book, what could be better?!
(£9.99, published by Search Press, ISBN 978-1-84448-912-1)
I have to say, I’ve never thought of using duct tape to make things. We have a roll in the ‘man drawer’ at home for temporarily fixing things, but it rarely gets used. This book features great projects; everything from coin purses to neckties, from mini animals to large “megativities” for the super adventurous. Such creative ideas! The author Richela, is an eco-friendly crafter who also writes a blog about do-it-yourself crafts. She is super lovely so please check out her site!
To enter the giveaway, please register on the Make and Craft website and leave a comment below, telling me what you would make from duct tape!
For a second entry, please follow me on Twitter via @claireabellemks and post the following tweet “I’ve just entered a giveaway to win a free craft book from @claireabellemks http://claireabellemakes.com/2012/10/09/make-and-craft-blog-tour-a-crafty-giveaway”.
The giveaway will end on Wednesday 17th October at 5pm with the winner announced here and contacted shortly after.
Should you be an avid craft book collector like me, do check out the Make and Craft Book Club. If you aren’t lucky enough to win the book, you can grab a copy for yourself by calling Search Press on 01892 510850 quoting “Make and Craft Blog Tour” to claim free P&P.
I’m so looking forward to the magazine going live on 12th October. There are some great subsciption offers available with 3 digital issues for £1 or 3 print issues for £3. There is also a fab free gift for 12 or 24 month print subscriptions in the UK.
The next stop of the tour is with Rosie White of Little Me Designs. Please pop along to her blog on 10 October to find out more about her and to take part in another fabulous craft book giveaway!

I really wish I was as creative as you!
You could be with this fab book
I think I would make a notebook like yours, its very clever. I have seen these tapes everywhere and often wondered what you could do with them!
The only difference is, washi tape would peel off very easily, where as duct tape is MASSIVELY sticky!
Hello Claire, thank you for joining in the Make and Craft Book Club Blog Tour. Not many days left now until we can all grab hold of our copy
Super Excited!
The book looks amazing. Duct tape could take washi tape to a whole new level
I love your notebook .(I’m not entering as I’m the Editor) but I like using tape to on gifts, wrapping them in brown paper and then spelling out messages. Looks like a fab book and your tutorial and make is gorgeous. I’ll need to buy myself a copy for ideas on what to do with duct tape. I’m intrigued! Katharine, Make and Craft Editor
Thanks for having me on the Blog Tour Katharine, I’ve enjoyed reading the other posts and am really looking forward to the mag x
I would have to try to make some big beads to put together into a necklace. X
Great idea Lynsey!
i would try covering some old plant pots for a funky look. Have never used the tape before, but will be fun to try!
I would like to make some of those duct tape rings that I’ve seen lately floating around craftland. If I won the book, I think I would try everything in it.
I have registered! I had never thought of making stuff from duck take! I don’t know where I would start! I am intrigued by the bag on the front cover though…
I have also tweeted
You are so creative, I would like to make tape rings.
Thank you for sharing your blog that I like very much.
I’m lovin the pretty tape! I might try covering a lampshade with some tape. Not sure if heat would mess things up but I guess the energy efficient bulbs don’t give off much heat.
Not sure why I’m logged in as Carolina Girl Bakery (my old business) but this is Kelly (crumbmaker).
I’ve seen a lot of duct tape projects on Pinterest, which definitely intrigued me, and I spotted some interesting coloured tape in a craft shop recently. I am now definitely interested in the idea of duct tape projects! Not sure what I would make yet – maybe I’d try turning it into something semi-fabric-like, and make a wallet or coin purse. No idea whether it would work, but half the fun is in trying!! I love your book, btw!
Gosh, I have no idea. Some sort of bowl, but quite how I would do it I have no idea. I love the washi tape notebook. So pretty.
What – you mean other than a silencer for the children? Need that book to find other uses
I’ve just found washi tape & I love it! All those fantastic colours. I think I’d cover the spine of a mini scrapbook album with duct tape, but I’d want to find more colours. I enjoyed reading your tutorial on making washi tape from tissue paper & fabric.
By the way I live in Norfolk near King’s Lynn :0)
I have used duct tape in my journal before, though I have to admit hubby gets a little stressed when i go near it! (he is a sound engineer and it is something they use, a lot!)
Hmmm I honestly don’t know – a Christmas decoration for the tree perhaps….a star? I think that I really need the book to get some fab ideas – what is the point of thinking up your own ideas when someone has already done it for you??
(will tweet )
I’d like to try a duct tape purse – I remember seeing a tutorial somewhere! I’ll have o google it!
Thanks!
I’ve seen some duct tape roses I’d like to try. Like you, mine is in the tool box. If I win the book, It’ll be moving to the craft room!
Entered! I am currently doing up a dolls house (yes, really!) and think the tape would work really well as wallpaper.. Have registered with Make and Craft. Good luck everyone xx
Ooo what an interesting craft, I would never have thought of making bits with duct tape! I’d have to go with the notebook too, I’m a stationary fiend lol
Duct tape beads, dollhouse wallpaper, lamp shade covering, a bowl–all such lovely ideas. Thank you for having my book as your giveaway, claireabellemakes. I’m so honored!
Registered with Make & Craft previously! I’ve been thinking about using duct tape to bind a book but would love to see what else could be done!
I’ve never thought of crafting with duct tape. I wonder what inks would work best on it? I’m thinking it would work well for giving a new surface finish to boxes and things before altering them.
What a wonderful competition, I would use the duct/washi tape on the edge of shelves to brighten them up or would jazz up my diary. I would love to win the book with so many inspirations.
My daughter and I enjoy new craft challenges. She has made beads with paper so our first attempt would be to make beads.
duck tape in our family is used to make a large empty sweet jar hidden so we can save our 5,10,20,50 pences and buy crafting materials , its also helped my dad hold onto his exhaust longer on his old car , i have used it on my old push bike seat when it ripped so i really do like duck tape , and i would use it for a animal mask grey duck tape would make a great elephant trunk wrapped around a an empty kitchen roll tube for the kids dress up , im registered with make and craft , and a follower on twitter with you claire xx good luck all happy crafting xxxx
That’s the best idea yet I think Sarah! An elephant trunk would be brilliant
Good luck in the giveaway!
